Surly's Cross Check is everybody's favorite jack-of-all-trades. Ride it, race it, commute, camp, or get stoked on 'cross; this bike has seen it all. Crafted of TIG-welded chromoly tubing with a lugged chromoly fork and all the braze-ons to run racks, fenders and bags, this offers comfort, vibration damping, and utility. Bar-end shifters and a wide-range, 18-speed Shimano drivetrain give the bike versatility and mechanical durability. The no-nonsense wheels, built from Alex rims laced to Shimano hubs, tackle the urban jungle or the 'cross course with ease. Powerful Tektro brakes and a pair of grippy, all-terrain Kenda tires round out the bike, keeping the rubber side down and letting you keep the fun under control.

The Surly Cross-Check is very versatile. I purchased mine as a frameset and customized it to meet my needs. It is not the fastest or the lightest frameset however it does have a classic resilient feel. The majority of riders I know are not looking to ride as fast as they can but instead are looking to enjoy the ride. The Cross-Check helps facilitate that. With a really longer steerer and many frame sizes it can be adjusted to just about any riding style. The 132.5mm rear drop outs are versitile and allow me to fit just about any hub in the rear. The ride is lively and resilient while being slightly relaxed in the head angle. Depending on where you place the wheel in the rear horizontal dropouts, it can be a really relaxed and stable feeling bike. Fenders and racks fit fine for comuuters and those looking to do some light touring. For me, a brooks leather saddle and leather tool bag round out the package. After riding for over 20 years and spending most of it riding the newest stuff, I have come to realize that the classic styles make my riding much more enjoyable. I will be riding my Surly for years to come.
